Sixth and Seventh Sitting of the Security Services Control Committee

On 27 February 2023, the Security Services Control Committee held its sixth and seventh sittings, closed to the public.
At a separate session, the Committee considered and adopted the reports on the work of the Military Intelligence Agency.
In the course of the discussion, at the request of the Committee Chairman, the Director of the Military Intelligence Agency informed the members of the Committee about the current security and political situation in our country and about the pressures the Republic of Serbia and our state leadership are under.
The Director of the Military Intelligence Agency provided the Committee members with detailed answers to questions and clarifications related to the considered reports. The Committee members gave a positive assessment of the Military Intelligence Agency’s reports, indicating that they provide insight into the Military Intelligence Agency’s work and results in the reporting period in a comprehensive and complete manner. It was stated that in the reporting period, the Military Intelligence Agency carried out all tasks within its jurisdiction in accordance with valid positive-legal regulations, in the interest of protecting the security of the Republic of Serbia and all its citizens.
According to the evaluation of the Committee members, in the reporting period, the Military Intelligence Agency had reported on global and regional challenges, risks and threats in a timely manner and informed competent users about other phenomena significant for the security of the Republic of Serbia.
Recognizing the significant role of defence attaché offices, as an organizational unit of the Military Intelligence Agency, the members of the Committee expressed a unified position on providing the full support to the opening of new defence attaché offices in accordance with the foreign policy interests of the Republic of Serbia.
Interagency cooperation, as well as the cooperation of the Military Intelligence Agency with other state bodies, was praised. This kind of cooperation contributes to the timely detection of risks to the security of the Republic of Serbia and prompt undertaking of effective measures to eliminate them.
The Committee positively evaluated the efforts of the Military Intelligence Agency to continuously improve bilateral and multilateral cooperation with partner services in very complex global and regional conditions, thus enabling a more efficient verification of data and information, which contributed to a greater reliability of assessments and strengthening of trust and cooperation between the agencies.
